Advertising guidelines

What can run in Gate & Globe's ad spots, how ads are reviewed, and how credit, auctions and placements work.

Last updated 17 October 2026.

These guidelines are part of the terms of service for everyone with an advertiser account. The team reviews every ad against them before it runs, and can stop an ad or suspend an advertiser account at any time if it breaks them.

Who can advertise

  • Anyone with a Gate & Globe account can open an advertiser account: players, alliances, virtual airlines, fan sites, communities and businesses.
  • You must be an adult who can enter a binding agreement, or have a parent's or guardian's permission. If you advertise for an organisation, you must be authorised to act for it.
  • Your advertiser name should identify who is behind your ads: your business, organisation, community or your own name.
  • Each site account has one advertiser account. Do not use another account to get round a rejection or suspension.

Where ads appear and who sees them

  • Ads appear in the space marked Advertisement on the site's pages. Each page shows one ad, chosen from the three spots by their share: 75% for the first, 15% for the second and 10% for the third.
  • Players can be as young as 13, so every ad must suit a general audience that includes teenagers.
  • An ad is a title of 2 to 100 characters, a description of 2 to 500 characters, a JPEG, PNG or GIF image up to 3 MB shown at up to 180 × 120 pixels, and an HTTPS link.
  • Ads are text and an image only. No scripts, tracking pixels or other third-party code run on Gate & Globe.

Review

  • Every ad is reviewed before it can run. The result appears on your Ads tab, with the team's note when there is one.
  • Approved ads cannot be edited. To change an ad, submit a new one and, once it is approved, switch your placements to it.
  • Approval means the ad met these guidelines when it was reviewed. It is not an endorsement.
  • The team can stop an approved ad at any time, including while it is running: for example, if its landing page changes, players report a problem, or the team finds that it breaks these guidelines.
  • If your ad is rejected, you can submit a corrected one. To ask for a decision to be reviewed, contact the team.

Content standards

Every ad must:

  • Be honest and accurate. Claims about price, availability, performance or results must be true, and you must be able to back them up.
  • Make clear who is advertising and what is on offer. The title, description, image and landing page must match.
  • State the important conditions of an offer, such as the full price, recurring charges, deadlines or who is eligible, in the ad or prominently on the landing page.
  • Be easy to read, with an image that is clear at the size it is shown.
  • Follow the laws of the places it reaches, including consumer protection, advertising standards and data protection law.

No ad may:

  • Imitate Gate & Globe's pages, buttons, notices or messages, or show fake close buttons, alerts, download buttons, notifications or messages.
  • Suggest that Gate & Globe or the team endorses, sponsors or runs the advertiser, unless the team has agreed to it in writing.
  • Flash more than three times a second, or use animation designed to pull attention away from the page.
  • Use shocking, frightening, disgusting or sensational images or wording, or a title written in capitals or padded with symbols.
  • Be aimed at children under 13, or pressure younger players to buy things or ask their parents to.
  • Name or show players, other real people or other companies without their permission, or attack competitors. Comparisons must be fair and accurate.

Not allowed

These cannot be advertised, and ads cannot link to pages that promote them:

  • Illegal goods, services or activities, or anything that helps people break the law.
  • Weapons: firearms, ammunition, explosives, and their parts, accessories or instructions for making them.
  • Drugs: recreational drugs, "legal highs", drug equipment, and prescription medicines.
  • Tobacco, vaping and cannabis products.
  • Alcohol.
  • Gambling: casinos, betting, lotteries, paid sweepstakes, skin betting, and games where people stake money or items of real value.
  • Adult content: nudity, sexual content or services, and dating services.
  • High-risk finance: cryptocurrencies, tokens and NFTs; trading platforms, forex, CFDs and binary options; payday and other high-interest loans; debt relief; multi-level marketing, pyramid schemes and get-rich-quick or work-from-home schemes.
  • Health claims: unproven medical treatments, weight-loss products, and supplements or cosmetic procedures sold on health claims.
  • Hate and harassment: anything that attacks or demeans people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or similar characteristics, and extremist organisations.
  • Violence: graphic or shocking content, content that glorifies violence, and anything that promotes self-harm.
  • Politics: candidates, parties, elections, referendums, legislation, campaigning groups, and contested social or political issues.
  • Deception and harm: scams, phishing, malware, unwanted software, misleading downloads, fake reviews, impersonation, counterfeit goods, fake documents, and goods that infringe copyright or trademarks.
  • Spying and hacking: spyware, stalkerware, and tools or services for getting into accounts or devices that are not your own.
  • Cheating: bots, cheats, hacks, exploits, boosting, account selling and real-money trading for Gate & Globe or any other game, and academic cheating services.
  • Gate & Globe value for money: selling game money, companies, aircraft or accounts from Gate & Globe, or offering anything from the game in return for real money.
  • Paying for clicks: offering anyone a reward for clicking or viewing ads.

Allowed, with conditions

  • Your airline, alliance or leasing company. Recruiting, promoting your company and roleplay are welcome. Name the world you play in. Do not offer game money, aircraft or other help in the game in return for real money, clicks or sign-ups, and do not attack other players.
  • Real airlines, travel and aviation businesses. Fares and prices must be honest, show any "from" prices as such, and follow the consumer law on fare advertising where the ad is aimed.
  • Other games and communities, including other airline games. Do not make false claims about Gate & Globe.
  • Contests and giveaways. They must be free to enter, say who runs them and when they close, link to full rules, and follow the law where entrants live.
  • Charities and fundraising. The organisation must be registered or otherwise allowed to raise money, and the ad must say who receives it.
  • Paid apps, subscriptions and services. State the price, and whether it renews.
  • Films, games and other media must suit a teenage audience. Anything rated for adults only is not allowed.

Images and rights

  • Use only images, logos, text and trademarks you own or have permission to use. Airline liveries and logos, and aircraft photographs, belong to their owners and photographers.
  • Photos of people who can be identified need their consent.
  • Use the Gate & Globe name only to refer to the game accurately, such as naming the world your alliance plays in. Do not use the Gate & Globe logo.
  • If the team receives a rights complaint about an ad, it can stop the ad while the complaint is resolved.

Landing pages

  • Links must use HTTPS, and the page must work when it is reviewed and for as long as the ad runs.
  • The page must deliver what the ad promises and belong to, or clearly relate to, the advertiser.
  • Pages must not start downloads by themselves, use pop-ups or redirects that stop visitors leaving, send visitors on to a different destination, or show reviewers something different from what visitors see.
  • Do not change what the link leads to after approval in a way these guidelines would not allow. If the page changes substantially, submit a new ad.
  • A page that collects personal or payment information must say who is collecting it and how it will be used, and must handle it securely.
  • Tracking parameters in the link are fine. Clicks pass through Gate & Globe's click counter on the way to your page, and your site sees the visit come from Gate & Globe's address without the page it was on.

Impressions, views, clicks and forecasts

  • An impression is counted each time an ad is served. A view is counted when at least half the ad is visible for one second or the ad is clicked. Each served ad counts one click at most. The viewable click-through rate (viewable CTR) is clicks as a share of views.
  • Advertisers see only these totals. Gate & Globe does not record or share who saw or clicked an ad.
  • Do not click your own ads, ask anyone else to, reward clicks, or send automated traffic. The team can stop the ads and suspend the accounts involved, and inflated figures are not grounds for a refund.
  • Forecasts on the auction calendar are estimates from the last 30 days of site traffic. What a spot delivers depends on traffic and is not guaranteed. A winning bid buys the spot for the whole month, not a number of impressions or clicks.

Credit

  • Buy credit through Stripe Checkout in US dollars, from $1 to $10,000 per purchase. It appears once Stripe confirms the payment.
  • Credit can only be used for advertising on Gate & Globe. It cannot be withdrawn, moved to another advertiser account, used for membership, or used in any game world. It has nothing to do with airline finances.
  • Credit does not expire.
  • Every payment, reservation, purchase, release, refund and grant is an entry in your credit ledger. Entries are never edited; corrections are new entries. The Credit tab shows recent entries, and the CSV download has the complete history.
  • The team can grant credit, for example as compensation or for a promotion, with a recorded reason. Granted credit cannot be paid out.

Auctions

  • Each of the three spots is sold by auction for each calendar month, from next month up to twelve months ahead.
  • You can bid on a range of months at once, with one bid per spot per month. To change a bid, withdraw it and bid again. You can withdraw an open bid at any time before its auction closes.
  • Bidding reserves the bid amount from your available credit, so you need enough for every month you bid on.
  • Auctions close at 00:00 UTC on the first day of the month. The highest bid for each spot wins it for the whole month, ties go to the earliest bid, and the winner pays the amount it bid. Losing and withdrawn bids return their credit to your available balance.
  • A bid can only win if its ad is still approved and the advertiser account is not suspended when the auction closes. Otherwise the bid loses and its credit is released.
  • If the site is down when an auction is due to close, it closes when the site is back, using the bids as they stood.
  • The team can fill an unsold spot for the current month with a complimentary placement, with a recorded reason.

Placements and refunds

  • Months you win appear under Placements. Before or during a month, you can switch its placement to another of your approved ads.
  • A placement only shows while its ad stays approved and your account is not suspended. A placement stopped for breaking these guidelines is not refunded.
  • If a placement could not run because of a problem on Gate & Globe's side, such as long downtime, the team may refund some or all of it as advertising credit.
  • Purchased credit is not refunded to your card unless the law gives you a right to a refund. If something went wrong with a payment, contact the team.
  • If you reverse a credit payment through your bank, the team can suspend your advertiser account while the reversal is resolved.

Suspension

  • The team can suspend an advertiser account for serious or repeated breaches of these guidelines, invalid clicks, payment reversals, or misleading information about who is advertising.
  • While an account is suspended, its ads do not show, and it cannot submit ads, buy credit, bid or change placements. Open bids can still be withdrawn; any still open when their auction closes lose, and their credit is released. Credit stays in the ledger.
  • To ask for a suspension to be reviewed, contact the team.

Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for your ads and the pages they link to, and for following the laws that apply to them.
  • If someone makes a claim against Gate & Globe or foleybridge.software because of your ad or landing page, you agree to cover foleybridge.software's reasonable costs and losses.
  • The team can decline or stop any ad it believes would harm players or the site, even if these guidelines do not name the problem. It will tell you why.

Reporting an ad

If you see an ad that breaks these guidelines, tell the team with the ad's title and the page where you saw it.
