Needs come from the operation

Staff: each group's staff, coming, needed, target, cover, hiring pace, pay, reserves, morale

The staff each group needs follows from your fleet and timetable: management, pilots, cabin crew, mechanics, ground staff, sales and reservations, and operations. Staff shows each group's staff, people coming, needed now and the target with reserves, and cover. Pilots and cabin crew are counted by base and type rating. There is no assigning crews to flights.

Each group can be hired at a weekly pace that grows with the group and follows the labour market: people are easier to find after a downturn in your home region and scarcer in a boom. A new airline hiring its first staff has no limit. Automatic hiring, on by default, hires toward the target, and retrains pilots or moves crews from other bases when that is quicker.

Pay, reserves and morale

For each group you set pay against the market and the reserve above what the operation needs. Pay below the market saves money and costs morale; morale drives turnover and reliability. Changing pay or reserves says where morale heads each week. Reserves cover sickness, training and growth; without them new aircraft wait for staff.

Hiring and laying off

Hiring: group, type rating, crew base and how many

Hire or lay off chooses a group, a type rating for pilots, a crew base and how many, against what the operation calls for, and says when they start and what hiring and training cost.

Pilots and crew bases

Converting pilots to another type rating

Pilots hold one type rating and are based at one crew base. Convert pilots retrains them for another rating, which takes weeks and money; flying many families means many ratings to train. Move crews moves pilots and cabin crew between bases, and says what it leaves at each end. Fleets based far from their crews cost more, so a network across regions needs bases where the flying is.
